Safety Assessment of Sandy Ridge facility in Australia for disposal of Disused Sealed Radioactive Sources and NORM waste
Tellus Holdings Ltd. commissioned this project to perform the post-closure radiological safety assessment of the Sandy Ridge Facility in Australia for the disposal of DSRS and NORM waste in a near-surface disposal facility for containment and isolation of radioactive waste. Experts from Facilia Networking developed the mathematical models of the whole disposal system and applied these models to assess its safety. The performed safety assessments were used for developing a safety case of disposal system as part of the license application for the facilities. The facilities were successful licensed and are currently under operation.
Safety Assessment of the Vaalputs facility in South Africa for radioactive waste disposal
Experts from Facilia Networking have performed various assessment and consultancy services for Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (Necsa). These include the 2007 Vaalputs post-closure radiological safety assessment (PCRSA), a study to evaluate the effect of container degradation on the performance of the facility and most recently the update of the Vaalputs PCRSA. Vaalputs is the South African national facility for disposal of different types of Low and Intermediate Radioactive Waste, including NORM waste. Experts from Facilia Networking have been responsible for managing the project, development of the assessment models, performing consequence analyses, writing the safety assessment reports and aiding Necsa for the submission of the license application to the Regulator. The facilities have been successful licensed and are currently under operation.
Development of design and safety assessment of facilities for treatment and disposal of NORM waste in the United Arab Emirates
Takreer tasked us with estimating of the amounts of radioactive waste generated by NORM industries of the UAE, proposing technologies for predisposal management of the radioactive waste and their final disposal. All required waste management facilities, including the final repository, were designed, and licensed by the national regulator. The main role of Facilia Networking in the project was to carry out the estimation of the radioactive waste inventory and characteristics and perform safety assessments of the radioactive waste management facilities and activities. The facilities were successfully licensed and are currently under operation.
Safety assessments of facilities in Sweden for disposal of spent fuel and different classes of radioactive waste
During this period experts from Facilia Networking were involved in various projects from SKB AB dedicated to the safety assessment of different types of disposal facilities existing and being constructed in Sweden. Their main role has been the development of performance assessment models and applying these models for performing assessments of potential radiological impacts associated with different scenarios of future evolution of the disposal systems. All disposal facilities have been licensed, several are under operation and other under construction
Safety Assessment of repository for LILW in Slovenia
The Slovenian Waste Management company (ARAO) is currently developing a facility for disposal of LILW generated during the operation and future decommissioning of the Krsko NPP, from the research reactor and other waste generators existing in the country. Experts from Facilia Networking have had a leading role in the post-closure safety assessment. They have also contributed to the development of the strategy and technologies for conditioning and disposal of waste.
